Welcome to Indian Naval Ship Valsura

HMIS Valsura was commissioned on 15 Dec 1942 as the Torpedo School of the Royal Indian Navy, and subsequently became INS Valsura after India became Independent. From a humble beginning six decades ago, this establishment has grown into one of the finest training establishments of the Navy and is located on Rozi Island (off Jamnagar, Gujarat), amidst the salt pans. The Establishment was awarded ISO:9001- 2000 certification on 29 Aug 2003 by Bureau Veritas Quality International.

INS Valsura has derived its name from its geographical surroundings. The name 'Valsura' is actually a combination of two Tamil words 'Val' and `Sura'' meaning 'Sword' and 'Fish ' respectively. The name thus signifies the Swordfish, a type of large salt-water fish believed to be found in the local waters.

INS Valsura's primary role is to train officers and sailors in basic and advanced topics related to Electrical, Electronic and Weapon disciplines. A variety of courses are conducted for officers and sailors at different stages in their Naval career. The Graduate entry and Cadet entry officers undergo a long Specialization course (over a year), whereas, the courses for sailors include basic courses for artificers and non-artificers, mid-career courses and equipment-oriented training

The Establishment hosts a plethora of labs with extensive infrastructure (both hardware and software), which enables trainees to undertake various projects as part of their curriculum. These labs also facilitate in-house development of training aids and applications
